What Is A Press Release?

A press release, which is also called as a news release, is simply a statement containing important events or announcements of your organization and is meant for online media distribution. The events could be about product promotion, new service launch, sales target accomplishments or even any scheduled company merger. Press releases are a must for promotional work so that your organization can reach to a large number of viewers. Hence, it is really essential to know how to write a press release. Writing press releases is no rocket science- all you need is to do is remember a few guidelines on how to write a press release. Here are a few tips that can make writing a press release an easy affair.

Steps For Writing Press Releases

For starters, Writing press releases can be a tricky affair but only if you don’t know the customized rules. Press releases are always written in a standard format. It is ideal to write press release in company’s letterhead. If that is not viable, then paper containing press release ought to have company’s logo.

The word PRESS RELEASE should be typed in block letters and should be on the centre of the page. All info regarding the name of the company, its location, website address, Email ID and contact numbers such as telephone numbers, FAX numbers should be typed clearly underneath the bold typing. The press release contact person’s name and contact info should be present immediately below this. If the press release is meant for IMMEDIATE RELEASE, mention so in block letters on the left margin just beneath the contact person’s info.

One of the most important components of press releases is the Title. Title should be always in simple present tense and the proper nouns should be used. It should be brief yet captivating to grab the attention of the journalists.

The body of press release should begin with the date and place from which press release is meant to be published. The first two lines of first paragraph of the body should represent the detail purpose of press release in a concise but appealing way. The ideal approach is to start the body with the basic five Ws and one H such as who, what, where, when, why and how respectively.

Real facts relating to the press release should be put in the second paragraph of the body. It should contain information regarding where to find the actual news, whom to contact, when the scheduled event is going to happen etc. A personal quote by a prominent person related to the company is worth a lot for mentioning in press release. Press release writing can be boring, however if you offer a personal touch to your writing, it would bind your readers till the end of your topic.

The ideal length for writing a Press release should be within a page or two and they should be double-spaced. The detailed information about the organization should be present below the detailed content. The title for this section should be ABOUT XYZ (i.e. the name of your company) COMPANY. After title the information about your company, its core business areas and policies, accomplishments should be promoted in a brief paragraph. In the end, mention your company website URL link as promotion.

The # symbols indicate the end of press release.

The Wordpress Plugin Repository

Friday, July 31st, 2009

WordPress is a great open-development community that encourages its users to innovate. But a few years ago, it started getting hard to keep up with those innovations. That’s when the WordPress Plugin Repository was born (currently hosted at http://WP-plugins.org).
The repository is a place where all WordPress plugins are pulled together and shared with the community of users. But more than that, it’s a place where developers can go to see what’s already out there, what they can base their new work on, and what needs to be improved. In addition to end-user utilities that anyone can download for their WordPress needs, there are plenty of development tools, including wiki-based version control and a bug tracker, that the WordPress development community is welcomed to use. Everything is licensed under GPL unless noted in the source, so almost everything is open.
If you’re new to the WordPress plugin repository but not to the WordPress support forums, you should login with your forum username and password; they are currently synced. If you have any problems, you should email the forum webmaster to ask what’s going on. Only logged-in users may edit on the Repository, though everyone is welcome to view what’s going on.
What’s Available on the WordPress Plugin Repository?
The Repository is designed to be a complete, organized, efficient method of seeing what’s in development and what has been developed for WordPress. As such, the core offerings here are the plugin directory and a robust version control mechanism. You can also use a special interface, downloadable for free, to work with the Repository more easily. The Repository is powered by Trac, a source control management and project management tool. Subversion is a wiki tool providing version control, and is also the source management tool WordPress is using today.
Developers using this directory can host all their WordPress developments for free, even organizing teamwork through the WordPress Plugin Repository. By hosting here, they have high visibility, can easily manage their code and track bugs, and develop wiki-based documentation with end users more easily than they could ever do it by themselves.
But developers without users are like stores without customers. WordPress users, too, are welcome to download plugins that are in alpha or beta form, or to download and use the plugins that are fully-functional but not integrated into WordPress yet. There are tools available for users to:
• Browse plugins and themes available at the Repository
• Download all desired plugins and themes from one stable location
• Give their own feedback and suggestions to developers by using the tracker.
• Help develop documentation and improvements by using the plugin’s wiki page.
• Know what’s going on at all times by using RSS feeds.
Anyone developing or looking for WordPress plugins and themes is encouraged to use this resource. An email will get you the hosting you need for your project, and just coming and looking around will tell you a lot about what’s going on in the WordPress development world.
What Plugins Are Available Right Now?
While plugins are changing fast, a few core plugins are available and certainly worth the time they’ll take to check out. The best ones right now include:
Main Categories for WordPress allows you select “main” categories on your blog’s navigation bar. This allows you to highlight the parts of your blog you find most important, while still displaying everything else.
The WordPress DBManager manages your WordPress database so you don’t have to. Instead of worrying about lost data, you can use this manager to optimize, back up, restore, delete backed up databases, and even run queries for specific data.
WordPress Email allow you to send your blog entries to friends, enemies, or anyone you choose.
WordPress PageNavi gives you advanced page navigation.
WordPress Polls allows you to run the ever-popular polls and make the results public when you’re ready.
WordPress PostRatings allows you to have rating systems for your blog posts.
WordPress PostViews lets you display for users and for yourself how many times a post has been viewed.
WordPress Print will display for the user a printable version of any given WordPress blog post.
WordPress RelativeDate displays a relative date beside your post or comment actual date.
WordPress Stats displays WordPress statistics you want to brag about.
WordPress UserOnline allows you to note which users are currently browsing your blogs
WordPress Wap allows you to use a Wap-enabled cell phone to brows your WordPress blog entries from anywhere.
Other projects that are in development include:
• Joystick controls
• RPMView
• A WordPress XHTML validator
• Tons of tools for Python, including MySQL tools
• Recording level monitor
• An admin themer
• A post editor enhancement
• Fix broken links
• Palm usage manager
There are always new things in development in the repository, like new themes and small fixes such as a way to make WordPress allow dashes.
Even if you’re not a developer or interested in expanding your blog beyond what it has now, it is a good idea to check out the Repository. It’s certain that many of the plugins provided or in development today will eventually be incorporated into the newer upgrades of WordPress. By keeping an eye on the Repository, you’ll know what new developments are around the corner – and by logging in and discussing them on the wiki logs, you’ll be able to give your own input regarding how things ought to be done. While there are other places to find WordPress plugins, it’s to be hoped that most people will use the Repository in the future, making life easier for everyone.

Press Release Distribution Services – Let the World Know

Friday, July 31st, 2009

This sometimes led to untrue information about the company being printed and circulated, and led to misinformation for the general public. In 1906, Ivy Lee, who is referred to as the first public relations professional, advised the Pennsylvania Railroad, which had recently suffered a tragic accident, to issue a press release to journalists and print media, and provide correct and proper information to the media, before they could write some other incorrect version of the causes of the accident. He advised the company to properly inform the journalists and news media about the accident and present the facts of the incident before they could cook up a story on their own. This incident led to the birth of Press Release Distribution Services and the Press Release Service industry.

In the early years of the previous century, Press Releases were done through the news and print media, radio, etc. In the last decade of the previous century, with the boom in the use of Internet, Online Press Releases caught on, giving birth to the Online Press Release Services and Press Release Distribution Services industry. This industry is booming today because the Internet is accessible all over the world and not limited to a certain area, country, or continent. An Online Press Release issued by a company in the USA can be seen and read by any individual, anywhere in the world, at any time. The world today has become a global village and that is why it is important for a company to be known and recognized all over the world, and not just in its own area, country, or continent.

There are many companies with varying degrees of experience and years in the industry offering a multitude of services and packages. Many of these companies only work with large companies and multinationals, but many others also provide excellent, dedicated services to individuals and small companies too. Press Release Distribution Services is also used as an online marketing strategy, through targeted press release distribution and has become an essential tool for staying competitive and well known in today’s market. Online affordable Press Release Services include news and information delivery to a multitude of channels that reach specific audiences including industrial media, potential clients and investors, newswires, and more on a regional, national, and global scale.

In the current competitive market, every one, be at a successful individual, or a multi national company, requires solid Press Release Distribution Services. Whether it is a successful individual like Britney Spears, Madonna, or President George Bush, or a company like Ford, Coca Cola, or a small company in Texas, or Delhi, all of them require Press Release Service, to properly present their image, provide information, news, and views, ensure visibility, and also to ensure that the general public gets the right information at the right time.

Press Release Services provided by these Professional and experienced Press Release Distribution Services also include writing the Press Releases, and assisting the client companies and individuals in writing a Press Release in the proper format and with proper words in the content. A properly formatted and worded Press Release is as important as the proper distribution to the right channels and media. An improperly formatted or improperly worded Press Release has a negative impact and may damage the companies / individuals image and reputation. That is why it becomes crucially important to select the right Press Release Distribution Services Company, which provides all services, and at an affordable price too.

Wordpress Plugins and the Power of Social Bookmarking Sites

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Blogger used to be a good blogging platform, especially for beginners. It was easy to use and setup, and not much technical know-how was required. There’s one major setback to using Blogger, though. You can’t take advantage of social bookmarking sites, at least not as effectively as you can with using Wordpress. There are numerous Wordpress Plugins, and some take advantage these sites.

These social sites act as a “vote” for your website. When people bookmark your blog posts or articles, they are sharing them with others. Other people pick up on your content, and they might bookmark them as well. The more votes the better. Google loves content, that’s no mystery. Google will reward your site for that content and the fact that high authority social bookmarking sites are linking to it. This means more traffic! A lot more in fact.

So how do we take advantage of these social sites when blogging? The answer is Wordpress Plugins. Blogger doesn’t give us any way to automatically bookmark every post we make. It has to be done manually. That’s very time consuming! Services like OnlyWire or SocialMarker can make this a lot easier, but you still have to take the time to use those services.

There is a much easier way to drive this traffic to your blog. You have to be using Wordpress to take advantage of this. Wordpress is probably the most popular blogging platform, and it’s no wonder why that is. It requires a little more technical knowledge, but don’t be scared away. The benefits are far greater!

Wordpress makes use of Plugins. Wordpress Plugins are basically little applications that perform a function or process. There are numerous Plugins that were made for Wordpress, and there will be many more no doubt. They all serve a different purpose.

Here are some Wordpress Plugins that you DON’T want to be without so that you can utilize the power of social bookmarking sites:

ShareThis – Allows users to share and bookmark your posts.

AddThis Social Bookmarking Widget – This allows your readers to bookmark your posts.

ShareThis and AddThis are pretty much the same thing. It doesn’t hurt to have both. You want to make it as easy as possible for your visitors to bookmark your posts.

OnlyWire Autosubmitter – This will automatically submit your posts to your OnlyWire account.

Sociable – Automatically adds links on your posts to popular social bookmarking sites.

Tweet My Blog – This will automatically post a tweet to your Twitter account when you make a new post, bringing more traffic to your blog. You can sign up for Tweet My Blog at my blog; there is a link in the resource box. You’re also going to need a Twitter account. So grab that and start getting followers, the more the better.

This is just a small example of the Wordpress Plugins that are available. You want to make sure you have these Plugins installed so you get traffic from the social bookmarking sites. The potential here is huge, and you don’t want to miss out. If you’re not yet using Wordpress to blog, I suggest you get on board.

Website of the Cracked Cookies

From School Library Journal
Gr 4-8-This treat for geeks and reluctant readers alike whirls readers at warp speed into a fast-paced adventure. It all begins when Jessica and her friend Matt click on a Web site that takes them to Granny Goose’s Fun Farm, which proves to be more than a simple game. Upon entering the Web site, the two friends are spun (“like Toto and Dorothy-on their way to Oz”) into cyberspace and down a tunnel (not unlike Alice), where they meet familiar literary and TV characters. After encountering Snow (aka Snow White) and her rock band, No Fairy Tales, the explorers help her elude Granny, who makes “cookies” for many programs-Netscape, Explorer, etc.-and wants to control the characters. The trio rockets into (more…)
